Northern State Medical University (NSMU) was established in 1932 to provide quality medical education to the northern European region of Russia. Today, the university has 16 faculties and institutes, enrolling about 9,000 students from 17 countries worldwide. NSMU employs 980 staff members, including 394 academic professionals, with 80 professors and 250 holding PhDs.
The university buildings are equipped with modern technology like computers, video tools, and films. A cutting-edge pre-clinical training center provides students with advanced medical mannequins and equipment.
NSMU has 55 departments, 27 of which are clinical and located in some of the city’s best hospitals. This setup allows the university to train specialists to meet the latest healthcare system standards.
As the primary medical training center for six northern Russian regions, NSMU has a strong global presence, with over 100 graduates working abroad in countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Israel, Germany, and Sweden. Additionally, 22 alumni hold foreign PhDs, while many others are pursuing doctorate degrees in countries like Norway, Finland, and Germany.
